We appreciate your interest in helping us make this con the best experience possible. Volunteering positions are available during the convention to assist with a variety of tasks.

Volunteering for NCAS is a great way to help the convention function and grow! Volunteers do not have to commit to anything they don't want to do, so it's a great way to fill down time while still experiencing the con! Working closely with staff, you'll learn the ins and outs of what makes events like this happen. People looking to join NCAS staff generally get their start volunteering for events, so they can gain necessary hands-on experience and make connections that will last a lifetime!

Ready to sign up? Submit an application here. Note that if you are 16-17 and would like to volunteer, your parents will also need to fill out our volunteer parental consent form, found here, and send it to us at volunteering@ncanthrosociety.com

FAQ

What is volunteering?

Volunteers help with tasks to make the convention run smoothly behind the scenes.

What tasks would I be doing?

Volunteers work closely with staff, usually working in safety, registration, dealers den, photo booth, and more! They help out when we're a little short on staff, doing things that don't require previous experience or training.

Do I get anything?

Volunteers will receive gifts of appreciation for their hard work! Gifts are given out in tiers depending on the amount of hours they work:

2 hours: Volunteering button

5 hours: Small token of appreciation

12 hours: Convention T-shirt (or equivalent Con Store coupon)

16 hours: Free admission to your next NCAS convention!

Some tasks and events have multipliers, up to 3 times total hours, so earning gifts is easy!

Do I need to buy admission to the convention if I volunteer?

Yes, volunteers still need to buy their admission pass through Registration. Once you've done that, visit ConOps to get set up! You can always earn free admission for next year by working enough hours!

Do I need prior experience?

No experience is necessary! If you have any that you think may come in handy, please let us know, but it isn't required. Volunteers are trained for their tasks on-the-spot and will always have someone they can ask for help.

I have a disability, is that okay?

Yes, absolutely! We will do everything we can to find something you're comfortable doing. If you ever feel like you can't do a task, please let us know. Volunteers are non-compulsory, meaning they aren't forced to do any tasks they don't want to.

Can I wear my fursuit?

While not strictly prohibited, fursuits cannot be worn if it interferes with your task. For example, not being able to see badges at Badge Check, or not seeing ID at registration.

Can I participate in the Fursuit Parade/Photo?

Yes! Volunteers that help out with the fursuit photo and parade can put on their suit at the last second to squeeze in the photo. We need extra help making sure fursuiters get in and out safely, as well as getting them plenty of water. Don't worry, we'll make sure you have plenty of time to get yourself ready!

I don't know if I want to volunteer...

If you sign up to volunteer and choose not to, that's perfectly okay. If you're on the fence, send in an application! We'll keep you informed of what's available if you have some spare time. You can always tell us "no thanks" later.

Who do I contact when I volunteer?

The Volunteering Department will have a Volunteer Coordinator on duty at all times. This person is in charge of getting you the resources you need and asking for more help when it's needed. There will be a Telegram group chat during the convention where you can talk to the Coordinator, or you can always visit ConOps for help.
